For those of you expecting an angry rant, I am sorry to disappoint you! This is a "thumbs up" concerning OCZ and their NewEgg-sponsored rebates on OCZ's SSDs. I ordered this drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820227590 on May 25th, and received it on May 31st. I then installed the drive in my computer on June 5th, and sent in the required documentation for the $30 rebate on June 6th. Figuring that I wouldn't see the rebate (in the form of a prepaid American Express debit card) until sometime in mid-August, I decided to wait three weeks to even try to track it. No need to even track the rebate now, because it arrived in the mail yesterday. Between the successful installation of the SSD and its stellar performance and the unexpectedly fast rebate process, I am a very satisfied customer of NewEgg and the proud owner of an OCZ SSD drive!

OCZ rebates are awesome. I have received every one I've filed and most of the times way before the deadline mentioned.

Same here. I have yet to not receive an OCZ rebate that I sent in the proper documentation for. Yet on NewEgg's site there exists a review that states:

Jim
5/31/2011 5:07:43 AM
Tech Level: 5/5
Ownership: 4/5
Verified Owner
Rating: 1/5REBATE =RIPOFF!!
Pros: Performance is OK... not stellar.

Cons: Impossible to claim $30 rebate. No e-mail was ever sent to tell me that "Original UPC Barcode Label (Not the shipping label barcode) is missing". Guess what? It's the only BAR CODE on the packaging. It's the one THEY PUT on it and it's easy to peel off.

Sound like a set up to fail so they don't have to pay? That's what I think.

Congratulations OCZ, you've lost a customer that buys $$$ of high tech merchandise both for personal and professional use.

Other Thoughts: OCZ won't be around long with tactics like this. Intel SSDs are at least as good and WE KNOW they will be around.

Manufacturer Response:
Hello, we are sorry that you have had a rebate issue. We will be happy to look into this for you, and will see that your valid rebate claim will be paid. Please email rebates@ocztechnology.com and include your full name, address, product, and date and place of purchase. We will be happy to assist you. Thank you

You'll notice that this reviewer states nothing negative about the drive itself nor its actual performance after installation. He is complaining about the rebate that he did not receive. I believe that he did not follow the rebate instructions and is now bashing both the drive and the manufacturer of the drive for something that is not their fault and proceeds to rate the product with one (and only one star), and it has to do with the rebate that was allegedly offered on it when he purchased it. The rebate should be considered a small bonus, not something that you are entitled to for merely purchasing a product and not following the rules in order to obtain the rebate. Any other thoughts?

I have never had an issue with rebates, though OCZ and EVGA's seem to come in fairly quickly.

Again, as long as you follow the directions (and some require a UPC code, or copy of the receipt), there shouldn't be a problem.

I believe all of them require at least both of the items you mentioned, SuperChip64. I believe rebates get a bad rap, not because of the companies that offer them, but because the consumer fails to read the instructions properly, or fails to turn in all of the required documentation. I have failed to obtain only one rebate in my experience, and that was because I entered a wrong serial number on the manufacturer's (MSI) rebate registration site, so I had only myself to blame and did not feel the need to ding their videocard for my oversight. I was so pleasantly surprised from receiving the rebate from OCZ in such a short time (17 days from the time I mailed off all of the paperwork) that I had to go back onto NewEgg's site and put in a second review (I had already given a five-egg review concerning the SSD) that reflected my experience with OCZ's rebate offer (also a five-egg review).
