Putting Newegg in the dog pound. I've made countless purchases from them through the last 5+ years and never had a problem until now.

I ordered most of the components for a new build on the 10th, got the items today in 2 boxes. Neither box had any exterior damage to them and they used that sweet brown paper towel packing material, the stuff that they put in school paper towel dispensers. Well I don't remember the exact layers but I do know they put both video card boxes on the bottom side by side and the motherboard box was on top of them. Sever smaller objects were on top so no big deal.

Well, when I grabbed the motherboard box I noticed it wasn't completely shut and there was a nice crumpled corner on it. I pulled the motherboard out of the anti-static bag and bam, the corner is cracked and bent upwards at about a 45° angle. This motherboard was obviously dropped at the warehouse by Captain Butterfingers and he apparently didn't want it coming out of his pay or something so he just shoved it in the box.

I shouldn't have to pay for shipping this drop kicked mobo back, but according to their website I have too. I sent them a RMA request explaining what happened. This kinda crap makes the good deal you thought you were getting into a debacle.

It's the way every company does it unfortunately. In fact, most vendors will blow you off and make you start up a claim with the shipping company. UPS, while they've got good service, always kill packages, and while newegg's new "biodegradable packaging" is shitty and I have complained bitterly about it, they are actually being kinder to you than most vendors would be.

Call and talk to a human.

I had the wrong part shipped to me a while back. To RMA I was required to pay for return shipping.

I called them up, and they ended up crediting me for the cost of return shipping.

Granted, this was close to two years ago, but it's still worth a shot!

Putting NewEgg in the doghouse for only one incident in over five years? Wow! I have to say that is pretty harsh, especially considering this is the first problem you have ever had with them! At least give them the chance to make it right with you. I have been ordering software and hardware from them for nearly eight years now and have yet to be dissatisfied with their service or support. I have received what I believe to be a defective floppy drive (which I never RMA'ed due to shipping cost compared to the item price) and they shipped out a duplicate 4-port USB PCI card (after UPS deliberately delivered it to my neighbor as I was not at home when they attempted to deliver it three times) when I asked them to help me resolve the issue with the lost merchandise. Overall, I will still do business with them and will continue to recommend them to others as I feel they have earned my loyalty and my future business.

When Newegg shipped me a defective Rosewill network adapter, they wanted to charge me a restocking fee. After I talked to them, they agreed to waive the restocking fee and sent me a shipping label.

i had a hard drive arrive DOA and after talking to someone the sent me an email with a pdf to print and tape to the box. dropped it off at ups store and got my replacement a little over a week later.

Definitely talk to a person, you have to take in consideration that these guidelines are put in place to keep people from abusing the system. In your case you definitely have a legitimate reason for wanting to return the item, than someone who just wants something different.

Newegg is totally automated, so I wouldn't blame a human for this. The only thing a human touches are very small packaging the system may not handle well and the final packed brown box. If it were dropped, it'd have been at the manufacturer or in the receiving department. Still, a quick call to them will have you an RMA number and a pre-paid shipping label in a day via email.

Over 5 years and this one incident, I'd call that great service, not dog pound worthy.
