I just bought a new D-Link wireless b router (DI-514) and a portable reciever (DWL-122) for my desktop.
I hate it! It's constantly dying and has no range! It sits 7 feet away from the desktop. I have to move it 5 feet from the computer at times just to keep it working. Today it wouldn't connect at all, even less than 5 mm away from the reciever. If you put it in the pressboard TV unit, it dies (same distance).

I would advise anyone against buying these models of D-Link. They suck.

Odd, I have the DI-514 and the DWL-122 and they work fine.
What does your link quality, signal strength and noise levels look like?
On your router goto Advanced->Performance and check the antenna transmit power. If it is already set to 100% try increasing the beacon interval and/or the DTIM intervals

I had a bunch of problems with D-Link equipment, and stopped buying their shit.......5 years ago.

I'd take a Realtek Ethernet controller over a D-Link one.

You can't run the D-Link software on the wireless PC and Wireless Zero Configuration at the same time without problems. Disable Wireless Zero Configuration in Windows XP and only use the D-Link software.
