So, everything was going along as normal. Adobe flashplayer had an update, so I downloaded and installed the update. Restart Firefox, and suddently this stupid Adobe download manager pops up on top of everything.

Thinking it was just a left over from the update process, I close the window and go on about my web-browsing. Well, it popped up every time I opened the browser, so off I go to uninstall this ridiculous addon that I neither want, nor need. Uninstall goes easy. Problem solved right? WRONG! Now, instead of this pop-up when I start the browser, I get a different one - an error message saying that the stupid addon can't be found.

So, here's to you Adobe, and to your automatic install of this "obviously essential and helpful program". (insert the "you're number one" emoticon, here).....

Tomorrow, i get to spend my time removing and reinstalling firefox to get rid of that garbage.

Not so fast!
Try this: http://www.macromedia.com/support/docum ... ger05.html
Use the fourth tab, "Global Notification Settings".
Note: like the page says, what you see is not an image, but the actual control panel for your PC's Flash installation. You can set Flash to look for updates every 7, 14, 30, 60 days, or not to check at all.

Flash is heavily used everywhere. Uninstall Flash Player with the removal tool listed here. I have never used the download manager. Download the standalone installer here.

The thing that pops up is the actual Flash updater and the thing that you typically DL'd. Or is it not? That's the way it goes here anyway. If you close and uninstall it, flash isn't really updated at all...thus why it can't find an update.

Don't fight it so much man. Let it doe it's thing, finish the update, and it should go away once it's complete. If it pops up again later down the road, that's a good thing 'cause you really want Flash to be updated as soon as there's a new version.

I uninstalled Flash from my system a few weeks ago and haven't looked back. With the FF4 beta in HTML 5 mode, 90% of youtube videos work fine. Photoshop is great. The rest of Adobe's software... I'll pass on the security holes, slowness, and proprietary.
