Just got screwed out of $35 over a Logitech rebate. If I had sent the original UPC code and they claim it isn't there, what the hell am I left to do? I obviously can't sent another one since an original is required, and it's cut out of the box, how can I return the item back to the store to get my money back?

What's a solution to this kind of situation?

Once you fill out a rebate (since you cut out the UPC) you cannot return the product.

Have you contacted Logitech about the problem and see what they want you to do? Did you keep copies of all the submitted documents (including the UPC)?

If you did not keep copies of the stuff, you are stuck with no rebate.

No, I don't see the point of keeping a copy of the UPC, what can I do with it when they specifically want the original.

Sometimes the companies will make exceptions if you provide the copy of the UPC. Ideally they want the original UPC so they are sure you purchased the item and cannot return it to the store. I'm not sure if Logitech would take a copy of it though,

Whenever I apply for any rebate, no matter how large or how small, I make sure that I do one thing: I follow all of the instructions to the letter--including "keep a copy of all materials submitted for the rebate". This includes making a photocopy of the UPC bar code from the original packaging. While I might not see the point of doing so, I still do it. Just in case a situation such as this (a missing UPC code) occurs.

Yeah, went over the checklist one by one. I still think they just pick random ones to lose to get some money back.

Logitech should be reasonable. Take a picture of the box with the UPC cut out, send it to them, and kindly word it in a way that says "I don't cut pieces out of boxes randomly". If they disagree, then your sanity is now in question and they're just not being reasonable.

If they refuse, rag on them with the BBB, resellerratings.com, and ratepoint.com. That should at least rattle their cages. Rebates are often out of their hands, but they really need to know when the communication breaks down with their own customers and the 3rd party.

Before stuffing it all in an envelope, I'll scan it just for my records. When I get the refund, I delete it and the world keeps on spinning. If it doesn't, I have a hole in a box and the scan to go to arms with.

Only had two off the top of my head that I've had issues with, and resubmitting with my kind distaste has flown over well. However, I'm so shitty at these things...I've got $60 sitting in the trash because I couldn't get to them before the expiration.

Just like you should being doing with your data--make backups. I hate to kill trees so I scan them in before mailing them.

I've had the random 'we didn't get the UPC' rejection before (not from Logitech BTW). When I sent a copy of the rebait (er, Fruedian slip there) with a copy of UPC and they did pay up.

Most often the rebates are handled by a third party. You could ask if they will accept other proof such as a mangled box, a picture of the serial number, or the like. You could try to contact Logitech directly for help also.

Of course, you might find another box to Xerox....

So you send everything and don't make a copy of it before you do? What would you've done if the post office lost it, or if the envelope was somehow opened before it reached them? Hundreds of things could have happened to that envelope before it reached the rebate center. Point is the fault lies squarely on your shoulders, and as such your responsibility.

Under your logic it is the fault of OCZ, Gigabyte, XFX, Corsair, and others because I am too lazy to buy some stamps to send out my rebates in the first place.
