At the end of july 09, i placed an order with tiger direct.ca for an order to build 2 computers. The total was 2 grand plus taxes. Well the first time the shipped my order, i received a damaged case . the case was replaced , but not before having to pay for the shipping (32.00). The next case was also shipped damaged, another 32.00. Then when i finally got to build my computers. The asus m3a78 mother board was dead out of the box. On the other computer my western digital 1 tb hd. failed at setup. missing the file ltdr file.so icodn,t load the os. My point to all of this stay away from tiger direct , it,s just isn,t worth the time and money spent. so from now on i will spend my money on my local computer store, where i haven,t had any trouble.

Have you tried NCIX? While I live south of the border, I have used them a time or 2 and their service was great. For those Items you should be concerned about shipping damage they do offer special 30day rma insurance at time of purchase. I purchased my monitor through them because of that insurance and also for their dead pixel insurance. On avg I really didn't really see a huge difference in pricing overall between them and other e-tailers.

That doesn't make any sense?

The NTDLR file was missing or corrupt.

Sounds like the computer was set up wrong or the image they used was bad. All it takes is to pop the disk in and run a repair install. That should fix the majority of the problems.

For others, possibly a bad hard drive.

That's what I was getting at. How can you ship something that is inop unless you never bothered to run a QC check.

Anyone can ship a faulty piece of hardware like a motherboard or HDD. But shipping a system that throws that error takes likely never trying it.

Well, from the past few years of reading Maximum PC, even some of their review units were highly unstable.

But you're right, a hard drive error? Sounds like they slapped an image of the operating system on and didn't bother to check if it installed right.

Does anybody even sell HDDS with the OS already imaged on the drive?

I don't know, but this guy sounds a lot like one of those guys on Newegg claiming to have high knowledge on the subject, but knowing only jack and shipt.

um iv used tigerdirect.ca for many years also have my companies account there from every hard drive iv ever purchased from there never once has any of them came with the os installed on them. the only time you will get a hdd from there with the os installed is if you buy one of there off lease systems and none of them come disassembled they come ready out of the box. so for the whole NTLDR file missing thats your end buddy check your windows disk cause you botched your install.

Misread the post (back in May), thought they used a pre-built computer because of the NTDLR message  .

My bad.

No to hijack, I buy the majority of my stuff from NCIX, however, I don't get it shipped home, I'm able to walk into any one of the four retail stores they have where i live and walk out with the booty. Always top notch service, even in person DOA parts are usually handed in short order (minutes) And no, I do'nt work for NCIX, just a long time customer.
