I will admit that is has been a very long time since I went to ASUS, but since my recent fresh install of XP (32 bit)...my RAID driver is missing in action.
I am one of those old guys...still running a custom, modded home-built rig with an ASUS 97NX-E Ultra 400. Couldn't find the disk for it..so I dropped by ASUS to download drivers.
Wow!!! They want $29.95 a month for the downloading privilege?

I'll dig up a driver, hopefully...but it just blew me away that this OEM is chaging for the latest drivers!

Hey Gordon... if you ever browse the Forum and see this... Hello! Been some time since we've e-mailed back and forth...same with Jon... you two did block me did you? Last e-mails I sent a few months back came back as Blocked...

Anyway...enough ranting...

Asus does not charge for downloading their BIOS, manual or any of the utilities / software included on the CD with which your board was shipped.

If you found a site asking for money, you're were on the wrong site.

Check the model number again as well. A7N8X-E Socket A?

There's not much there, and Microsoft Update may have newer files. Asus also stops doing drivers when the IC's manufacturer's drivers become better or their specific drivers no longer hold any advantage.

Silicon Image (IDE), Marvell (LAN), and Possibly nVidia have newer drivers for that nForce2 Ultra 400 at their own support sites. This is true for even new motherboards; Intel has newer drivers for the P6T than I can get there.

Excellent points, Chumly. I couldn't find a matching model number so I just gave up.

So ..

a) Asus does NOT charge for downloading support software, and
b) Older hardware may benefit from newer generic drivers than older version-specific drivers.
