i bought a compac computer a while ago and sent in for the rebate of $50.00 usd. i waited and waited.............and waited.but no rebate nothing. i forgot about it for a while and then i remembered how much it was making me mad and i got the guts to email them. after getting the run around for about a month the final result was that i must be too dumb to send the mail to the right address. also there is no proof what so ever that they never got it.i sent it and just feel l was done wrong. anyone else had this happen?

Never dealt with Compaq, but look a little further down for a thread about soyo.

Rebates - IMO - are just a come-on to get you to buy something.

I have had a few rebate problem with things I have bought at Fry's. I have had a couple be declined for whatever reason, I only let one go, it was only $10 and not worth the hassle of fighting for it, the other was for $50 on my Hard Drive. I went back to Fry's they shocked we with how helpful they were. The guy spent 20 minutes on the phone with Western Digital and got the rebate for me.

this is why you send things like that in the registered mail....if you live in the US anyway...or use fedex...either way you have PROOF that you sent them somthing(and can take them to small claims court...make em pay $3000-$4000 for that $50 rebate)...

I got to the point of looking at the price without the rebate, if it was still a good deal I got it and the rebate was just a nice "bonus". If I have to rely on the rebate to make it a good deal I skip it.
