My wife's laptop was replaced by Best Buy under the protection plan, we were given a number of options and settled on a Toshiba. I used to enjoy their products and figured nothing had changed.

That was last night, and we haven't opened the box yet thank God! During some free time at work I went to Toshiba's website to download the latest drivers for both Windows 7 and Windows 8. To my surprise I couldn't find the product at all.

I called the support line and when I finally talked to a representative I was given the spiel of how the hardware is customized for Windows 8, blah blah blah, and I reinforced that I at least wanted a page with the latest drivers, if not the specs. No go, it's a custom Best Buy SKU.

Get with the times Toshiba and support your products. If you're willing to make it you should be willing to support it. Best Buy doesn't have drivers for the unit!

I'm taking it back after work and swapping it out for another brand.

My Mom's Toshiba laptop is almost 4 years old. It runs Vista SP2 well enough and has been utterly reliable. But the Toshiba driver support page is a seven page long joke, with cryptically-named XP, Vista and 7 apps all mixed in together.

As a result, except for Windows Updates, all the drivers are from 2009.

I started looking around at the other options and even the ASUS models were missing drivers.

I doubt all the models are generic enough to use a common driver set.

Ridiculous.
