I was reading a recent issue of MaxPC and thought I read about a new $500 build-off. Unfortunately, I fell asleep reading the article. I have a month old son so sitting down pretty much equals sleeping.

From what I remember about the article The goal was to create the best $500 PC for a family - ie it could do a little of everything. Does anybody remember what issue that article was in? I can't seem to find it in my stack. I know it wasn't the one all the way back in 2007. I hope I didn't completely hallucinate the article.

If it can play crysis it can do a little of everything :!: Post your needs and wants in the Help Me Buy/Help Me Build. They'll build a nice system for you!

Nope, that wasn't it. It was an actual head-to-head build-off where two dudes built PCs and then an editor judged the results.

That was one of my favorite all time articles. Why? I don't know. But if your looking for a family PC for $500, I'm not sure if you should align with that. That was more of a .. um.. friendly competition?

the cardboard case has been enshrined in the annals of MPC legend!

But I agree, they definitely need to revisit this article

They just gave us the $690 Recession Special! The budget builds are enjoyable so I wouldn't complain about seeing another cardboard case special!

Keep on sending letters to Will. Trust me, I have plenty of awesome new cardboard boxes that I'd love to make a super-badass rig out of. And I've even got my hands on some exclusive 2010 boxes that are going to blow you away!

I custom built my computer for just under $1000 pretty easily so I din't see how hard it would be to build one for under $500. When's the next competition going to be because it would be interesting to watch.

Jim

Hemorrhoids can be aweful. There's more info on http://hemorrhoidsreliever.com/ that is good to know.
