Hey Insane,

You know you were mentioned by your CPU handle in the Nov. issue of CPU magazine, right?

Yeah, I know, in the modders section along with meanbeam and that dufus antigates. :) But funny thing is, I actually have a few of those thermaltake heat spreaders and they're total garbage, they fall apart and are very very hard to get back together, they don't come with pads or anything, they're just pure junk. Besides which, the lights read "Thermaltake" as if you'd want that in your rig? Why? They should pay you for advertising for 'em. Ah well. I'll use either Corsair or Crucial memory.

hey, advertisements are alright...

they help me get a ballpark idea of market parts and other prices.

also, i was wondering if there is a way to supplement my magazine subscription with a digital subscription, for free?

a digital file of the magazine would definitely be nice if it came free with a paid subscription.

hey we were all newbies at one point or another... but come to think of it... what exactly am i a newbie of? not computer hardware or software... not modding...

so what exactly is it... a forum? not quite- been there done that on many larger scale forums...

if this is just a right of passage, well, it is pretty lame.

OK - I saw this post pop up and read Will's comments on the 20th - I almost responded then but decided to do a little cockeyed style investigations...

I went out and bought the following Rags.. er Mags:
CPU
PC Magazine
PC World
Computer World

(Its what the closest grocery store had that wasn't gaming related)

Did page counts of all of the magazines as well as did my own page count of the October and November issues of Maximum PC.

In every case the content in MPC was higher then these others... Not to mention the fact that of the above list only CPU offers me anything even CLOSE to the level of honesty that I expect and receive from MPC.

Couple that with the fact that according to the inserts for those mags, that Maximum PC was actually a cheaper deal for subscription?

Ya - Adds can suck especially when their pages are thicker than the other mag pages - making it harder to flip through etc, but seriously - was any of the content compromised in the Mag? Were the reviews suddently crappy?

Me thinks that we ought to count our blessings that there are still magazines available like Maximum PC and ask them to continue the great work on reviews and articles<AHHHHHHH>

Sorry fell off of my soap box there...

hehe ok - I've vented - Will - remember - there are far more supporters than decenters out here in the ether :)

I'm Tuathal and I approve this post.

If you'd like to know how to vote the One4u2c/Tuathal ticket - visit your nearest Folding Forum and vote MI-Collective on October 29th <grin>

Go MAXIMUM PC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing I'd like to see added is along with the 3dMark scores on CPU/Mobos... I'd like to see F@H wu times as well <grin>

Now THAT would be a valid test of the speed of a cpu hehe

Rob, I agree with everything you said 100%. I don't like the term noob or newbie either, but what can ya do? It's been adopted, adapted and forcibly stamped on anyone who's new to a particular place, regardless of their level of experience. I'm sure if there was a forum for quantum physics and Stephen Hawking popped in one day some people would call him a n00b. :)

With little exception, the criticisms come from the same habitual complainers, hence the 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' witnessed above. Also, had the 1and1 ad been spread out rather than in a block of pages, I don't know that there'd be the same number of complaints this month. Like anyone else, I'd enjoy seeing less ads, but I'll take the added content any day and call it a buck well spent.

For the record, I was not aware additional content was being provided without additional staff.
