SlimServer, the utility article by Josh Norem... The article ends by saying it's "so easy, anyone can do it!" Well... I've been struggling with it for about 10 days now, and still can't say I've been able to have people easily, reliably receive my stream.
Josh, did you install it (withOUT having Squeezebox or Slimp3), and were you really able to have someone hear your stream by simply telling them to to enter your certain URLs in WinAmp & their browser???
So, wanna trade URLs to see if we can hear each other's streams?
Maybe you can help me get my stream running smoothly. Help.

I was actually the one who pointed Josh to Slimserver... I've not had any problem with that app.

If your machine is behind a router or firewall, have you opened a port so that incoming connections can hit that machine?

Thanks Will. (No firewall prob).
I was immediately taken by the Slim software server...the possibilities! So I grabbed & installed it. After 10 days of striving to get it to work, trying to get some real help or at least a straight, intelligible answer from Slim Support or their forum, and making my friends dread my emails of "Try this & let me know if you get sound THIS time"...well, after all that I gave up today.
However, I did leave my SlimServer running.
Just got an email: "Amazingly, the thing is woikin! I've made up a playlist of 119 tracks and it'll be on until I go to bed tonight. Thanks for the great tunes, old friend!"
Great! Fantastic! But why?? And why hasn't my Streamee had other probs, like wrong-speed playback, etc?
How in the world Will, were you able to just enjoy smooth sailing with Slim?
