I love getting your magazine every month, you guys do a great job of putting together one of the most interesting and relevant pc magazines I have ever read. I'm sure you get plenty of suggestions on how to make it better, but if your looking for one more, here it is. I would like to see you add audio benchmarks for some of the hardware you guys review. People have so many choices of what to put in thier PCs nowadays, and I think I speak for a lot of us when I say noise is a critical factor. Knowing how much or how little noise a particular case fan, hdd, or DVD burner makes is something I weigh heavily when upgrading. There doesn't have to be a zero point test system used in Dolby labs or anything, just more of a real world feel on how much noise a particular component will make. Thanks for the hard work you guys do, keep it up!

It's something we've talked about. It's difficult to do in a non-subjective way without doing all sorts of expensive stuff, but it's definitely something we're looking at.

I'm in the same room as my home server right now, and the fan whine from the damn thing is driving me insane. I gotta fix that :)

Sound is definetly an issue for me. One more concerned MPC citizen who cares about their eardrums and movie expirience.

Not much is more annoying than playing a DVD and listening to the drive whine like a '50's hot rod. Especially hard drive noise levels would be a good addition.

In case any of you whiners didn't know Nero has a nifty utility to control drive speeds, keeps the noise down when watching an "archival" divx copy of a movie.

But it doesn't control HDDs. I have them set to shut off after 5mins of inactivity, but they start right back up again after a couple seconds.
