Am I the only person out there that remembers (and owned) the Logitech Fotoman?

The Geek Quiz, Question 45: "In 1994, __________ sold the first consumer digital cameras". The correct answer is Logitech.

Back in 1992, the Logitech Fotoman burst onto the scene in all its black and white picture taking glory. It could hold 20 or so 320x200 greyscale pictures in its meager internal RAM, transferred to your PC over a serial cable. The Fotoman was handheld and battery operated. Despite its shortcomings, it was out long before the Apple Quicktake digital cameras. I should know as I owned a Fotoman, and they definitely were "consumer" digital cameras. Portable, lightweight, and easy to use, though not without a few bugs and a crappy battery life. But such technology was virtually unheard of for $500 or so back then. They sold them at CompUSA.

Every time I hear someone say Apple was the first with digital cameras I am quick to correct them with the oft-forgotten Fotoman. Yeah, it was a poorly engineered machine but quite a marvel for its day considering there was nothing else out there that was portable and could take digital pictures.

Back in 1992,

Well they said the first camera in 94', so you'd be wrong. :D

I suppose that could be true on a technicality

I am pretty sure that in 1994 Lotitech was already selling the Fotoman Plus (which I think had more memory or something, I don't remember what the difference was other than it was black)

Scroll down toward the bottom of the page, the fotoman plus came out in 1992 :D

I think it's still wrong, since apple clearly did not make the first consumer digital camera.

Actually nobody knows who sold the first digital camera in 1994. But we do know who created the first digital camera in 1994.

Sony released the Mavica in 1981. It wasn't truely the first due to it being a digital cam corder that also took stills. It wasn't until 1991 that still cameras really took of, and it's my opinion that Nikon was the first with the F-3 featuring Kodak's 1.3MP DCS.
