There should be inserts in the magazine with the non-CD version for $12. Fill one out and send it in.

You can also call customer service, I believe the number is 800-274-3421 ([C]hams will correct that if it isn't).

Lastly, you can subsribe through third advertising parties. I personally use BestDealMagazines with the coupon codes found on Techbargains. For example:

Magazine Link
1yr = $5.95
Coupon Code = LABORDAY20 (20% off)
Final Price = $4.76

That LaborDay code is good till Sept 12th. After that, TECHBAR15 can be used for 15% off - that one has been around forever. You can also subsribe for up to 3yrs with additional pricing discounts:

3yr = $16.95
Coupon Code = LABORDAY20
Final Price = $13.56

Talk about a steal...

I pay $12 at the newsstand every month for the issue, Canadian. I don't buy every month, even then it would still be $45 CDN a year for a subscription.

The price of the magazine has risen $4 in 6 years since I first started reading. I wouldn't be too put out if I was you.

You can't really beat the link One4yu2c posted, however, if you call the customer service number you can order the cd-less version for $12/year.

Your best bet would be to call the toll-free number, 800-274-3421 and get the $12 sub.

Wow. Am I ever glad to find this thread!

My subscription ends in December. So, in my meantime, I guess I'm going to have to decide on renewing w/ the $12 direct from MPC, or the cheaper 3rd party.....

I originally ordered mine from a magazine drive (in 6th grade). It didn't have a CD in it, and I've just renewed the subscription each time. I'm in 10th grade now, and I've never gotten a subscription with a CD.

I used to be the opposite of you -- I wanted the CD. But a year or two ago I realized that the CD is pretty pointless. I can find most of the stuff online.

Are you using the special 3rd party deals, then?

I put myself up for a 3 year renewal for 15 bucks

Id be cautious of that, you never know wahts gonna happen to policies in 3 years. Not even MPC or future networks offer that sort of subscription policy.

Best to get it in 1 year increments and not have to worry about things going out of buisiness/missing important anouncements in an email account you never check.

Eh, semi-hogwash :wink: IIRC, you can check your lenghty subscription status online once processed. BestDealMagazines has been around a long time, and even in the worst case scenario (they end up going out of business), you'll still save over 'traditional' subscription methods. With the codes, it's $14 for 3 years and even if only 1 year is fulfilled/processed (which I don't see happening), you paid $2 extra. However, you'll most likely be saving $22 over traditional methods ($36 vs $14).

Right now I'm paid up till Sep 2005...I'm gonna do the 3 year one and report back how the subscription status is handled. It's cheap enough that I'll be a guinnea pig :D

Yes I did - came to $14.41/3 yrs after using the 15% off coupon code. I also emailed their customer support to see how 3 yr subscriptions are handled, specifically with MaxPC...I'll update whatever I find out.

I wrote:

    I subscribed through your site to MaximumPC Magazine and chose the 3 year subscription option. If going through directly through MaximumPC, they only offer 1 and 2 year subscriptions, but not 3 years. How does this work with you folks? Do you make MaximumPC aware of my full 3 year subscription, or do you have to renew it on my behalf after a certain time period?

And BestDealMagazines replied:

    Publishers will make special offers available to agencies which they may not offer on direct orders. We do have the three year term available and this is what is submitted to the publisher by our clearinghouse.

    If you have any further questions or require any additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Marvelous news!

Glad I found this thread, or I would've kept paying $30 a year to get free CDs I didn't want. Thanks for doing all the grunt work for all of us, One4yu2c

Not picking you urmumsacow, but here is my update post as promised in regards to the above concern. To refresh for those that don't want to dig through this thread, I had a year left on my subscription when I signed up for 3 more years through BestDealMagazines. I checked my subscription status online today and I'm all paid up until September 2008. Woot!
