Would you still be as enthusiastic about upgrading to an SSD (02/2014; pg. 22), if the upgrade is from a Z68 motherboard that uses an SSD as a cache drive (i.e. Intel Rapid Storage Technology)?

Thanks.

Depends on the SSD in the Z87 setup. If it's a first or second generation SSD (which usually topped at around 200 MB/s then you still see a difference though not as drastic as moving from a standard mechanical drive. On the other hand, if you've installed a recent SSD that reaches 500 MB/s then I doubt you'll notice much difference.

With RST you're limited to 32GB (I think) for the SSD cache. It's like a Seagate Hybrid drive but uses 2 drives (1 SSD & 1 HDD) versus having 1 drive that combines both. I've never used RST but from what I understand it's pretty decent and you see some appreciable improvements in speed.

If you're relatively happy with your setup, I would probably save the money and put it towards my next build.

Hope this helps.
