It's becoming more common to see SSDs as the only hard drive option for light weight laptops. Something I'd be interested in reading would be the effects of doing a full disk encryption of an SSD. How much does it slow the SSD down, aside from performance drop are their any other negative effects? From what I've been able to dig up, no one has yet done any benchmark/lifespan testing around this topic.

The CPU may be taxed with encryption more than the SSD. If the laptop nets 200MB/s throughput, full disk encryption may only drop it to 180MB/s which is still mountains over what a 5400RPM spindle drive could dream of offering w/o encryption.
