Here's a thread for you all to talk to editors about the March 2010 issue of Maximum PC!

Please don't post "Mine hasn't arrived yet" type comments in here. Likewise "there's a typo on page 25, you guys are soooo stupid" posts. Please feel free to start another thread for those issues.

Also, please try to limit "I haven't gotten my issue yet" posts

We're really interested in your feelings about the actual editorial content of the mag (please note, ads are not editorial content)

Also, if you haven't yet, subscribe to our podcast!

Timing Is Everything: Page 44

The entire discussion of how Microsoft exhibited a machine's capability when booting off an SSD was nice, but then a reader's own "what if I had an SSD" scenario arises in anyone reading it.

"The Result

Did we get our rig to boot in less than 30 seconds? No, but we hit 30 seconds exactly - a 33 percent improvement over our original boot time."

This is MPC's reference rig.

In the back of my closet, I have a PII 350MHz (from 1-core age) with an 8G HD and 40MB of RAM running Windows 98SE. I used this machine daily up until I bought my new system. It booted in 34 seconds... And that value is derived from Power ON to the "busy" mouse icon's last disappearance from the screen (Not the desktop appearing), after cleaning out all the trash/files, defragging, etc. etc.

Yes, there are a billion variables between my rig and the reference rig running Windows 7. But that begs a number of questions, and really, I'd like to see them answered.

For starters, why so little gain in so long a time? Is it just MS bloat that kills our multi-core boot times?

Dear Maximum PC:

Your information is incorrect regarding Games Workshop. In your March 2010 issue (Gaming Awards P.52), you claim Games Workshop stole Orcs and the space elves/humans/bugs theories from Blizzard.

This is not true- Games Workshop (Itself founded in 1975) released the first edition of the tabletop Warhammer Fantasy Battle (The universe WAR: Online is based in) in 1983. Warhammer 40k's tabletop version (The universe Dawn of War 2 is set in) was first released in 1987. Both of these games have been updated throughout the years and are still played very frequently, and have a fairly large fanbase.

Blizzard entertainment wasn't even founded until 1991 under the name of Silicon and Synapse, 4 years after Warhammer 40k's debut and almost a decade after Warhammer Fantasy. If anything, Blizzard stole their ideas from Games Workshop.

You open your section with "Cite your sources, GW!" and the cover of your magainze says "Minimum BS". I'm a long time reader and, frankly, am surprised there wasn't more research put into this. Especially with the fairly hostile tone you seem to take in that section.

Edit: Forgot to mention that Starcraft was released in 1998. A full 11 years AFTER Warhammer 40k.
