I’ve been using an Xbox 360 to access movies & audio files on my server but my wife hates the controller.
In the Jan magazine, one of your advertisers (Patriot) advertised their Box Office Full HD 1080 that will replace my Xbox as far as accessing my server for movies and the like. Then, I noticed the WD TV Live device on page 86 (looks close to the Patriot). I stopped by my local Best Buy to look them over only to find that they had nether but did have an offering by Netgear.
I figure I am sort of an average guy and maybe someone else out there would like to see one of your comparisons.
If I can have all of my wished regarding accessing my server, I’d like to watch my Blue Rays from my Blue Ray player on my home PC from my large screen living room TV. I’d like to download and watch Netflicks the same way. I’d like to be able to pause a movie on my living room TV and restart it in my bedroom (when opportunity knocks).
I’d like to do power points or slide pictures of my vacation using the same device.
I want flicker free 1080i resolution. I want (my wife wants) an easy to use remote to access the files and features.
If it does receive TV (or cable) then it should be able to store for later viewing. Maybe even two channels at the same time (there is frequent competition for prime time). Think about this, it does require 2 boxes because I won’t want to recable anything (just pause on one and start on the other) (don’t want to spoil the mood).
All of this for less than $150.00 each. Best Buy online said the Patriot sells for $89.00.
Connecting this up to FreeNAS or WHS, and I’d be good to go for the next year when new technology comes up with something better.
Can you help a guy out with a review of the competitors?
