Read your Tips for... It got me questioning my wisdom. I installed my Windows 8 on my drive1 instead of drive0. Does it matter. Also is there a fast and easy way to get to controlling all my drives. I install a new drive that does not display. I know i have to go to the drive control panel but can't find it. When I do it's only by luck.

PS I just built a new system this week. Good example of a day late and a dollar short. Could have used this article. Good article.

Lots of views but no response. So I must not be clear.


1. Control panel (Windows 8 Pro) I'm trying to locate panel that lets me Initialize or format drives.
2. On this same display the drives are numbered from 0 to 7, if you are using 8 drives.

So my second question is should my operating system, Windows 8, be on the Drive "0". If not is it a potential feature issue for me?

I found part of my answer. Actually it opened a great deal of knowledge I had no idea of.

If you go to the Start Menu (tons of Icons) you can actually type in what you are looking for. So I typed in the following
1. Power Management - a screen came up with options.
2. I selected Setting.
3. The result got me to the point I needed. (Very happy).

But... I'm still looking for an answer:
If my operating system should be on Drive 0 or can it be on any of the other drive numbers.

Your OS should be on the drive the BIOS looks at first. That is usually drv0.
