I want to build a gaming comp for $1000-1100 . Already have monitor + HD. Any suggestions? (I am leaning toward athlon 64 and probably geforce 6800 non pro)

If you can swing it:

Athlon 64 3000+
Some nForce 3 250Gb motherboard (the MSI one is supposedly very good)
1GB of PC3200
GeForce 6800
Antec Sonata
NEC DVD-RW

That will hit about $1000, but if you can swing it, move up to the $400 GeForce 6800 GT.

good choice the athlon but why cripple your gaming with a non pro, the 9800 pro 128 can be had under 200, if you shop, and refurbished can save you another 50 this card should last thru the next gen of dx9 games with no trouble. add a gig of fast mem, you should be good to cook. and still under budget, depending on accessories, case, kb, mouse, sound, speakers, the standard hsink will work fine until you start to oc then you may need to upgrade to a better one

Perhaps you misread his post? Throwing in a Geforce 6800 is hardly "crippling" a system.
