Good memory isn't only for OC'ing anymore. Besides items like OCZ's Enhanced Latency line focused at OC'ing, they now offer an Enhanced Bandwidth line that should make any Athlon64 shine even at stock speeds.
But if you just want to run an average PC, then why bother? On the otherhand, if you build an entire kickass rig and just throw some Crucial memory in because it's a good brand, then you've seriously overlooked something of great improtance. That simple move can split the hair between kickass systems...or lots of kickass parts in a box.
Remember...just running out and buying the highest rated PC4800 ram doesn't mean it's going to be worth a hill of beans in your rig. Matching memory to your system is more important than you'd think. Sometimes a lower rated memory is better...
