Don't really know anything about processors. I am buying an alienware in the next 35 days. I want a computer that can play Everquest 2 / Doom 3 / Half-life 2 / World of Warcraft, run photoshop nicely, and most importantly - I want a stable computer. (don't think I want to deal with over heating)

Which chip will be better for me? the AMD or the Intel?

Please help 8)

(lets assume price means nothing)

I chose the FX-53...but in all honesty I think either would be pretty good.

It also depends on what you're going to do with the machine...the P4s tend to shine with multimedia, whereas AMDs tend to be better for gaming.

Don't get the Intel it sux compared to the fx-53 if you do a lot of gaming the fx-53 is faster and is cheaper i believe the only thing the p4 excels at is converting file formats

Here is a spectacular article from around 3 weeks ago on anandtech that explains the layout of the new Intel architecture, chipset, etc.

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/sh ... tml?i=2088

From article: "Not only are we seeing new chipsets, but attached are a new CPU socket 775 called Socket T, a new bus Technology called PCI Express, a new Graphics Card slot called x16 PCIe, and a new memory technology called DDR2. Those are just the highlights, since we are also seeing additional changes attached to these technologies - like new heatsinks, new power supplies, High-Definition audio, and Matrix Raid. "

The new prospects from Intel look sweet, especially since it seems as if they're trying to innovate more quickly after being accused of following AMD's lead.

However, at this point, I want to say that Intel is probably going to be hurt by the 64-bit AMD processors due to their effciency and speed currently.

Price meaning nothing... do you mean money isn't an issue?

In that case, get the FX-53.

Personally, if I wanted a new system, I'd go with a P4 @ 3.2GHz w/512k cache. Anything faster is overpriced for what you get, IMO.

Alienware doubles up, twice

"where the two video cards shared the workload by drawing alternating lines on the screen, the video cards in Alienware’s Video Array split the screen in two, with one card working on the top half and the second card working on the bottom"

If you can't wait, the fx-53

I'd wait to see PCI Express go mainstream and then go for a system that can do SLI.

Pthhh...if I were shopping AMD, I'd rather save $150 and get the 3800+ way before getting the FX-53. That's a lot of money for another 512kb of L2 cache and the benchs are so close as it is...
Do a google, there's really not that much difference in all the benches that justify the extra cash IMO. Just too bad it's still running registered memory:p

A more correct poll should have been a 53 vs P4EE

Sucks? That's it? You are correct in saying it's better in games, but some would like to hear why it "sux" so much compared to the FX53. How about intelligently weighing the onboard memory controller vs. having Hyperthreading and what it do for the user?

[b]I still feel pitting a P4560 against an FX-53 is totally slanted.[b]
