I'm looking into this camera. I think with its 32X total zoom, and Image stabalizer its a definate candidate for my next purchase. Has anyone used / owned or currently owns this camera around here and wants to give me they're opinion on it.

And for the extra few hundred bucks is it better to go with the Nikon Coolpix 5700? or even the 5400?

Thanks, Andrew

LOL you actually consider digital zoom? It's a 32-320mm camera, digital zoom is a joke...

Oh I agree I hate digital zoom thats why I'm looking at all of these 'super-zoom' camera's I like the idea of 10X optical on the S1 IS though. and that 30fps 640x480 movie mode seems useful. What about factory reconditioned Cameras? that would put the Coolpix 5700 right into my price range. or is reconditioned not worth the hassle?

What about the Canon Powershot A80 I know its a significant step down from the Nikon 5700 but for the price of the A80 I could get a 4 Mega Pixel and a 512-1gig CF card and probably 2 sets of NiMH batteries without breaking the bank. Then again the A80 doesn't have CF type 2 support so that eliminates Microdrives correct?

Guh! why don't they just make 3 camera's the beginner awful one with no optical zoom then the enthusiast camera with about 7 - 10 optical zoom and about 4 or 5 mega pixels and then the pro SLR 8 Mega pixel and above. Instead of having about 30 cameras just in the powershot line alone. :x
