I just ordered the Western Digital 740GD Hard Drive, and I have 2 questions:

1) Can anyone recommend backup software?

2) Can anyone recommend a Parrallel ATA to Serial ATA adaptor, or do you think I should just get a new mobo?

Thanks in advance.

1. No idea, I just copy and paste.

2. What motherboard/CPU do you have?

look up Dantz Retrospect. I hear that's a top notch program.

I personally just cut and paste as well but there are a few good programs out there. As mentioned, Dantz Retrospect is supposed to be great and Norton Ghost isn't bad either. THe problem with Ghost is that it makes and image that you would restore from in an emergency. If I remember correctly it's not possible to recover just one or two files from the image though. That's the major downfall of Ghost. On the other hand it can back up to cd/dvd/or other hard drives which is a nice set of options.

If you're planning a system upgrade soon, I'd just buy whatever SATA/PATA converter you can get your hands on (or a SATA card), but if you are going to keep that CPU/RAM for a while, then a new Mobo might not be a bad idea.
