Hi guys, I currently have an Abit IC7-Max3 mobo, with on board sound..it supports 5.1 surround. Would i see a performance difference if I installed a Creative Labs Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS Sound Card, or should I stick with on board?

The difference will be huge. Not only will the sound quality improve drastically, but your framerates will also jump up because the CPU won't have to do all the audio work too.

Ditch that onboard sound as fast as you can...
Hell, even a SB Live! is better than onboard sound!

This is a little vague on what you consider to be "performance," but in terms of CPU utilization and sound, there should be a noticeable difference in both. In terms of sound, that's dependant on the quality of your speakers as well, and how critical your ears are.

The simple answer is, if you're a gamer, the Audigy 2 ZS is the card to have.
