I have a customer with an older computer and she wants to upgrade. Ive already explained the benefits of upgrading to a new systerm as opposed to upgrading her current system. She only browses the internet with her 56k modem, checks email and plays a few games. Biggest game she plays is The Sims. Her current specs are:

Intel CA810 motherboard
400mhz Celeron
1x 64mb PC100
8.6gig Seagate
Generic floppy and cdrom
Generic MidTower (PSU watt ?)

I almost have her convinced to get a new tower and use her old cd, floppy and modem. But due to her income, im also trying to see other possibilities. This is the link to her current boards proc support:

http://Intel.com/support/motherboards/d ... a_proc.htm

Newegg doesnt have anything close to that, if I have to check pricewatch for older stuff i can do that. My question is if I run a faster processor then whats listed, will it just clock down and run at whatever the max speed the board supports? For instance, if i drop this processor in, would it work?

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 161&depa=0

It has the same FSB and same socket (both are socket370 i believe), so im wondering if it would work, just not running at full speed. Thats my only question, just finding her cheap ways to do a small upgrade without spending too much. If anyone has any other ideas, feel free to share. I appeciate any help/feedback I get : )

Rick
