(Didn't know where to post this) I am going out of the country for an extended period of time and would like to take my desktop computer with me. I plan to take it as checked baggage. If I remove the hard drives, do you think everything else would survive the airports/transfers if I pack it in the original (case) box and packaging? Should I use packing material inside the case to protect the components?

Thanks in advance.

That stuff's designed to survive couriers that could care less about handling it gently.

Keep in mind if it's 50 pounds or more, you're paying heavily for it.

On one hand if I wanted to do this trip I would want to pack the inside of the computer with something. However I don't recommend it due to static buildup. The only thing worse for those electronic components then travel is a spike of static.

I don't think this is necessary though, considering that OEMs ship without stuff inside the case. And some OEMs even void your warranty if you open it.

I agree not necessary, but I'm kind of anal when it comes to packing anything. I over protect everything I ship. Used to work for one of the big logistic company's and I have seen things happen to packages so I take no chances now.
