I have two EVGA 8800GTs in SLI (SLI currently disabled) and I'm worried about heat. When I built my PC years ago I made the dumb decision to go with videocards with a single-slot cooler so as not to block the adjacent PCI slots (never ended up needing them anyway) but damn do they get hot to the touch. And that's not even when I'm gaming, just sitting at the desktop. My case comes with temperature probes that show the temps on the front panel. I have one sitting on the cooler and it reads 58 degrees Celsius just idling. Should I be worried about it?

While that is a little high for idle, what's its load temperature? If you're not spiking near 90C, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

you need to get a control program, like precision from evga. some of those older cards had a habit of defaulting to 20% fan speed, even my 570 ran warm with a 30% default, by setting it up to 80% I gained a good 10c idle temp, it is down in the low 40s now. you might also check to see how clean they are. also may be time for some new thermal paste.
