Hello forum types, I am building up a new machine which will be running Win 7 Pro x64 on a Asus F1A75-M LE FM1 A75 mobo and I want to incorporate an old internal IDE Zip drive and I plan to use a Vantec 4+1 SATA 2 & PATA 2 PCI-E adapter card ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6815287003 ) to give me a PATA connection to the IDE ZIP drive. My question is: If I set up the mobo to run my hard disks (an ADATA S510 boot drive, plus a WD1002FAEX 1TB for storage) as AHCI will I be giving myself a incompatibility problem with the Vantec adapter to my ZIP drive? Otherwise I'd just set up the mobo to run all drives as IDE and call it a day... Whacha think? Jim

No, those only affect the SATA controllers. And in the BIOS menu, only those on the motherboard. You'll probably a utility to configure the card.

I setup a IDE daughter card in a friends machine to run a zip drive that was setup for AHCI and there was no extra setup...it just works fine.

Now I have another problem getting this to work... I've got my hardware installed and upon boot up I see the adapter card BIOS scroll by (before the O/S begins to load) telling me that a Zip 100 drive is sensed but this never shows up in Win7's device manager... I can't find it in the board's BIOS as a drive either. How do I get Windoze to recognize it? BTW the Vantec web site is no help either...

Easy, pop a zip cartridge in with data on it and it will appear.

Hmmm..., so if all my zip disks are empty how do I get to read them and put data on them? At least an empty disk (formatted) should show no files and 99~100mb free...

Just pop in an empty disk, the drive should show up in Windows Explorer. None of my DVD drives show up in win explorer unless I have a cd/dvd in it.

Naahh, that ain't happening. Even an unloaded DVD drive shows up in the device manager. I guess I'll have to resort to loading the dreaded "driver" I hate to use anything that is not native to windows... more later... thanks!
