Hi all first post.

I've recently purchased a GTX 560 Ti to play battlefield 3 on. Still having problems with FPS!! this is a joke! can it be my CPU i'm running it along side an AMD Phenom II X4 940 with 8Gb DDR2 ram which i thought would be ok? Is this the CPU letting it down?

Btw.. first post :)

Brad

Define "having problems with FPS". Were you expecting buttery smooth 60FPS constantly at ultra max settings? Because a single GTX 560 Ti doesn't have that much power. The Phenom II X4 is capable of pushing 60FPS on high settings with no MSAA @ 1680x1050, with a GTX 580.

Welcome Brad!

You're indeed correct in questioning FPS in BF3 when backed by a 560Ti and an X4 940. I'm not sure what Latios is smoking, but BF3 is a bit dated and I ran it buttery smooth on much lesser hardware than what you're using currently. The 560Ti should tear it up at 1680px on a single screen. But Wicked is asking a question with a very correct question in response. We really need the description of what a "Joke" means when it comes to FPS. You really should be getting a steady 60FPS in BF3 w/ a 560Ti and the X4. Something else is dangling out there, so the full detail of the build and payload is needed so that we remote helpers can figure it out.

You're not using some 4K dual link screen above 1680px with all the pretties turned on, are you? That would start to really drag the GPU down, but beyond that...something else is out there mucking up your BF3 game play.

I'd like to know what you're using, because the GTX 560 Ti barely pushes 60FPS on high details at 1680x1050: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/rad ... 135-6.html

Since Brad hasn't responded with what his average frame rate is:

According to nVidia, Optimum settings for a vanilla 560 Ti (not 448 core version) at 1680x1050 in BF3 is: (check link for higher resolutions)
Texture Quality - Ultra
AA Deferred - 4x MSAA
Ambient Occlusion - HBAO
Terrain Quality - Ultra
Mesh Quality - Ultra
Shadow Quality - Ultra
Motion Blur - On
Terrain Decoration - Ultra
AA Post - High
AS Filter 16x

Resulting in an average FPS of 43.77

I have a feeling that there is a desire to see more performance than what you are currently going to get. I would consider purchasing another GTX 560 Ti or a higher performing GPU like the GTX 680. Bottleneck might become a bit of an issue with your current platform. Upgrading the mobo, CPU and RAM would help; possibly the PSU. I understand if you would rather not. Money does not exactly grow on trees.
