I built my new pc about two months ago and my CPU fan doesnt begin to spin till windows is booted up. I went into bios and set the low fan speed error to ignore but that still doesn't change the fact that my fan has a delayed start. Strange thing is it doesn't happen every time. My temps are fine otherwise I just don't want a problem in the long run. What should I do?

make sure you are plugged into the right fan header.

I am, I have it plugged it in the primary outlet not the opt fans. Could it be the stock fan itself?

Just out of curiosity, does it respond to changes in the BIOS setting if you muck with the speed?

Is your cpu fan a 3-pin or 4-pin? And, by chance, is it a Gigabyte mobo? I've had similiar snags with some of their boards. I fix was always their EasyTune suite.

I got to check but I can tell you it's the stock fan. I went I to bios and I left it on standard and it spins on average at around 1000 rpm temps usually at about 34 c. The motherboard is an asus sabertooth z77.

Do you think the stock fan itself is faulty?

Anything is possible, do you have another to swap in and test?

The fan you've got installed may not have an RPM sensor or it's defective and the mobo is hanging on startup believing there is no fan connected, usually if this happens though the computer just won't start at all but ii may be receiving an override signal. Most likely the problem isn't related to the CPU fan rule it out simply by disconnecting your new fan and plugging in your old one then start the computer, the computer will be fine for few minutes without a fan just while you see if it boots normally. My first hunch is that you've inadvertently reset the bios and its defaulted to slow memory check,is there a memory counter while your waiting?

No it doesn't do the memory counting. Basically I'll start the machine and the CPU fan isn't spinning. Windows starts up and I'll log on and my CPU fan doesn't begin to spin till once the desktop is fully loaded. Then I'll hear it turn up pretty loud and it'll quiet down in a few seconds. I'll check the temps and the CPU will be about 32 to 34 c with the fan spinning at 1000 rpms.
