Hi guys I just got my hands on two Cheetah T10 SAS (Serial Attached SCSI ) drives and a PCI-e X8 controller (that has a ARM chip how cool is that :D ).

I've set it up in a RAID 0 configuration and it gives me just a little over 600 Gigabyte of space.

Now to my many big questions?

Both hard drives runs very VERY hot, almost to the degree that touching them hurts, almost. Also I get the feeling that they use a lot of power?

So.. Since I know just about next to nothing, other than its fast, just how fast is this? Is it worth the extra power consumption, and also where and what kind of performance increase should I expect ? Would you if you could run with such a setup?

Right now the entire setup, the two drives and controller is unplugged on my desk. (Got it for free btw)

What should I do with it ?

If you got it for free, use it!

Just make sure you have fans drawing air over them.

Those kinds of drives are designed to be used in either servers or high end workstations.

Both take into account the extra cooling required.

What model is the drive? I'm sure you can find the safe operating temperatures.

Maximum sustained 50C/122F. So as long as you don't go over those, you'll be okay.

Just make sure there is plenty of airflow over the drives, and if possible space them apart.
