I was running 12GB (6x2GB) of DDR3 Triple Channel RAM on my ASUS Rampage III Gene motherboard, until i got my 3rd kit of 8GB (2x4GB) today in the mail. I had bought 2 more of this particular kit ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145315 ) early on, and i was using it for my spare AMD build PC. the 8GB kits i bought are DDR3, but Dual Channel. so i removed my 12GB of DDR3 and inserted all 24GB (6x4GB) and started my computer.

things were working well, but the motherboard only is reading 16GB, not 24. the motherboard can handle up to 24GB of RAM, but i want to know if its 24GB of Triple Channel RAM, not DUAL Channel.

Windows & SP1 x64
i7-970 - 6 cores
Crossfire 5870's
Installed 24GB, 16GB working, DDR3 Dual Channel RAM, 1333MHz

I have tried shuffling the ram around to each of the RAM slots, but it still reads 16GB. I am trying to keep the pair together, because its a new kit, and i know that the other 4RAM sticks are good, since they came off of my spare PC. I was looking at BIOS up[dates, but the updating software is not for my version of windows 7

Replying to my thread with the new kit i just got today. it is installed in the RED+BLACK slots right next to the CPU (i think the 1+4 Slots). with no issues.

I noticed when looking at the labels on the kits, this new kit is labeled v3.13, and the two other 4GB kits are v2.12 & v8.11. Same model numbers, just the revisions are different - should that be a problem? While i have had no RAM issues in the past, i failed to check the kit revisions because "it just worked".

CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 V3.13 Package# 6899525 113202450 (NEW KIT)
CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 V2.12 Package# 10481262
CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 V8.11 Package# 10493701

The RAM in the new kit has the entire package string, but on the box it only displays the "113202450" half. the RAM does work in all of the slots by themselves, they just do not play nice when they are all installed at once. On Newegg, the motherboard supports 24GB, but says it is Triple Channel memory supported. Does that really matter, since i can run DDR3 DUAL channel RAM just fine?

i think for now i will go back to my 12GB of triple channel. I wonder if it is because there's a limit to DUAL channel amount (which makes no sense).

That doesn't sufficiently answer his question....

Any version of Windows 7 x64 lower than Professional won't support more than 16GB RAM. Once you step up to Professional you get support for 192GB I believe. Home Premium is 16GB, Home Basic is an 8GB limit, and Starter is only offered in x86 flavor with a 2GB limit. Enterprise and Ultimate x64 versions would also give you support for up to 192GB.

So exactly which version of Windows 7 x64 do you have installed?

I'll second this.

I've performed this once on my wife's laptop, bumping her up from Home Premium, and it worked just fine. You put in the code, and let it run.

I did create a full backup of her drive first though, which I would suggest to anyone performing any kind of OS upgrade.
