Hey guys, I still have my 2x2GB of Corsair Dominators, model #CMP4GX3M2A1600C9 1600mhz RAM. I want to upgrade to 8GB, most preferably 2x4GB sticks instead of adding two more 2GB modules which would add stress to my mobo. Corsair came out with the new Vengeance RAM, and I was wondering if these particular chipset http://www.microcenter.com/single_produ ... id=0355881 would make a significant upgrade over what I have now. Thanks!

I would say that it Greatly depends on what you use your system for.

Gaming, graphic design, overclocking for high scores, video/audio editing = medium difference.

Web, and basic tasks = Nil.

I'm a big gamer, thats about it. I dont do any programming or anything of the sort. I'm just wondering since I want to prepare myself for a lot of major titles coming this summer (Duke Nukem, DX3, Max Payne 3, etc). The RAM in my rig I have now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product is $60 after rebate at a nearby Microcenter near me. I was wondering if I should just get another two modules giving me 8GB. The only problem I worry about with that is being that it'll make 4x2GB modules in all 4 240 pin slots, and doesnt that create stress for the mobo?

Or should I sell the RAM I have now, and try to get 2x4GB modules?

I personally would do what is cheaper, I mean two more sticks of the ram that you have is absolutely fine, unless you want every single frame you can squeeze out of your hardware.

I just tried to find the two sticks that I have. Corsair TW3X4G1600C9D Dominator 4 GB Memory Kit for PC3-12800 1600Mhz 240-pin Dual Channel DDR3 is actually the correct model number as I looked on the actual sticks themselves. Newegg doesn't carry them anymore, and neither does the store that I bought them from. I believe I got them for about $130 after rebate about a year ago. Does it hold up just fine with the games I play now (Crysis 2, GTA IV)? Yes, absolutely. But how it'll hold up for future games is what I worry about, and considering the fact that you virtually almost cant get this particular chipset easily anymore bothers me. Seeing that a lot of PCs are pushing out 6 to 8GB of RAM out of the box, I figure it would be a bold move to sell this chipset and upgrade, but I'm still on the fence. Or should I just wait for the summer?
