Me again. I have recently obtained a Corsair Obsidian 800D case (yes, you may envy me) and discovered that there are a lot more fans than there are power connections on the mobo I'm using. I've ordered a fan controller but I was thinking...fans don't draw a ton of power and there are three 120mm mounts on the top that I intend to use (my last build was a heat catastrophe).

So, my question is, what if I connected the three top fans in parallel? (electrically -- not for airflow)

why not just connect them to the power connectors, all the fans dont need to be connected to the motherboard, they make adapters to do this http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=fan+adapter

Thanks, I just discovered that this morning, although I'd looked online for exactly such a thing. Never run searches with a really high fever.

If I were to run them from the mobo, though, how many fans can I connect on one fan header? I'd like to use PWM if I can. The board in question is the Asus P7P55D-E Pro and the fans are Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mms (which, btw, are really, really quiet.)

i would think they are limited, thats why there are multiple fan headers on the motherboard. there used to be power supplies that included fan headers in their wiring harnesses, i think one of my modular ones has.

the fan controller is likely the best solution.
