I have searched a bit in the forum, but not having seen the topic discussed, I guess I will raise it here.
The question is simple: is it possible to upgrade a g wireless adapter so that it will receive from a n wireless router ?
The latest driver does not seem to be the answer, but perhaps this is only true for TrendNet.
I may be asking a stupid question....

Nope. Different beast all together. Just no way to turn a 2.4Ghz radioed 54 Mbit/s device into a 5GHz banded 600 Mbit/s device with workarounds, hacks, or drivers. Need to just get an N device.
