A friend of mine called me the other day, he went to our local best buy looking to get a new laptop since his last one died. a employee asked if he needed help, he was asking about a good laptop with a long battery life. the the employee proceeded to tell him that a device such as the atrix or transformer prime would give him much better batt life tan any laptop (this I know is true) and he continued to tell him that it will also out preform any laptop with a dual core or quad core cpu running the same programs. my friend asked him about audio and photo editing software from adobe. this gut followed telling him that the software isn't made by adobe, but it is better, faster and has more features built into it than what you can find in Photoshop. my friend isn't very good with tech, so he told him he would have to think about it. as soon as he left the store, he called me from the parking lot, my first thought was WTF, what a load of bull, I wonder how many ppl they tricked with those lies. With this on my mind, I have been wondering, is there a way to benchmark a x86 cpu vs an arm cpu, I know they are very different. but I was thinking something like super Pi. to be able to give some kind of direct comparison of the two in actual performance test that would show which one is more powerful. know that some x86 cpus will also loose to arm. as for my friend who uses adobe Photoshop and Aduation regularly, it was mind numbing to know he was told he could get a better faster app on an android device. do they really think that we are that stupid.

The only standardized benchmark for CPUs across architectures I'm aware of are the Drystone and Whetstone measurements. And I heard these aren't exactly reliable either.

The Atrix is a phone. The Eee Pad Transformer is a tablet with a keyboard dock. Neither is designed to replace a notebook or desktop computer. Maybe Transformer is comparable with low end netbooks and laptops in basic light usage.

Both run versions of the Android operating system. Your friend will not be able to install Windows image editing programs or any Windows games that he might want to play. A tiny 10.1" screen is pretty small for image editing. Don't even bother trying to use the phone screen regularly for this. He should also check to see if the Android apps can open old files that your friend created in his old image and audio editor and can save new files in a compatible format.

For fun, I ran Sunspider and BrowserMark on my spare machine. I had a few browser tabs open and a Notepad window in the background.
Athlon XP 2000+, 1GB PC 3200 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX400 4x AGP, Windows XP Pro SP3, Mozilla Firefox 12.0

Sunspider -- Total: 1568.8ms +/- 0.6%
BrowserMark -- Your score: 137493

just for fun, I ran browsermark on my q9550, 302127 8gig,560ti,vista64,IE9

the other one was 187.5ms +- 1.0%

They are predators afterall. It's a rhetorical question really.
