Hey guys my friend is looking into getting a 6600GT. Im an Ati man myself but with the recent reviews i suggested to him to look into Nvidia. Since we both are ATI guys we dont really know what brands to be looking at. Basically he's a mild gamer just looking to play halflife 2 and doom 3... He really doesnt have a spending limit but we are trying to stay under $250.00. So yeah basically we want the best 6600gt under $250.00 period.

From what I've heard, BFG, Evga, and MSI are all good brands.

Whoa dude, there's no need for the attitude. Do your own research if you don't like the responses you get. It's not that hard.

there's 2 flavours, 900MHz memory, and 1000MHz memory, manufacturers seem to vary with what they offer.

XFX has one of the lowest costing cards, it comes with 1000MHz memory, and has dual dvi outputs which i haven't seen other cards carry.

BFG may oc their cards, but so can you :P

if you're looking at $250, i'd seriously say toss in $10 more and get a 6800nu. I went for a ledtek($275) because so far, their rep for unlocking is awesome. Even without unlocked pipes, you're still faster than the 6600GT at higher resolutions.

Im sorry if i came off a little harsh on the last statement i just want some knowledge and not just brandnames.. I was just very specific on what i wanted so i was hoping to hear some edjucated statement if i wanted some newegg reviews i would go on newegg i came here because the hobbists in this forum know what they are talking about. As i said i know almost nothing about Nvidia Ive read some general lit on newegg about the cards but i wish to have some real world tests or reviews to support the buy.. So once again dude im very sorry if i came off strong. :)

So we're looking at the AGP 6600GTs right?

I would pick between the XFX 6600GT or the MSI 6600GT.

XFX because,

1. Dual DVI. I'd rather have this than any other video output combo.
2. Decent bundle.
3. Price - it's only $12 more than the competition.

MSI because,

1. Best bundle compared to all other 6600GTs.
2. It has VIVO.
3. It's $19 more than the competition, which isn't much considering the bundle and the VIVO capability.

And if the bundle doesn't mean jack, then the EVGA 6600GT receives my vote.

And with the $30-$50 he'll be saving, he could get another game.

Thanx and yes we are looking for AGP not PCI-E... He's running a AMD 3200 and an Abit NF7-S mobo so unfortunetly no PCI-E

the only thing that seems to attract me is the fact that the BFG is already OCD and it still has a manufactuers warranty. Is anything as fast as the BFG. Also is BFG a good brand otherwise I think we'll go with the XFX card pointed out above.. Thanks again guys for all your help.. I just hate making decisions on such an important component..

my vote goes to the XFX. they are a company that is right up there with BFG on the nvidia side of things.

All of the 6600GTs perform similarly - whether BFG or not.

If he truely wants the best 6600GT and gain a couple (literally) of frames, and get ripped off in the process, then the BFG 6600GTOC should be on his list.

well, if you want teh best frames, the 6800nu will rip the 6600gts apart, not really, but it will perform better. all the 6600gt perform so close to each other that it really doenst matter what one you get, just be sure to get 1000mhz memory, something the aopen i posted does have.
