recently a memory stick in my system died or so i think for the 2nd time in a year .. does it make sense? its a gskill ripjaws ..
it has a lifetime memory .. but does it make sense .. or should i get a new set .. what do you people think of crucial ballistix? or musgkin silver
its bothering me that it died or so i think .. i have 2 sticks my board has 2 white slots and 2 blue so the sticks are in the white slots but both time the stick in the same far right slot is dead
because when i pull it out the system boots up now

the real question is is it normal to conk out every 6 months? should i bother with an rma and exchange or buy a new set? what do people think of mushkin .. crucial ballistix or gskil ripjaws
in the past my old systems had ocz ? opinions on ocz?

what i need is stable 2 sets of 4gb each ddr3 pc10666 or better 1.5 volt

OCZ doesn't make RAM anymore.

G.Skill is pretty reliable, and so is Crucial.

I don't think this is necessarily a RAM thing. The fact that the stick in the far right slot always dies makes me wonder if there is something wrong with that slot.

I'm personally a fan of Crucial, Corsair, and Patriot myself. I forget who (I'm thinking it was Corsair), but there was this awesome RMA excuse the company had which was "I've done extensive testing, ran everything I could, I'm an expert and I know what I'm doing, and I just want a replacement." I used it and it worked.

I haven't kept up with pricing trends, but about two-three years ago, I didn't want to spend any less than $50 on a RAM kit. I felt like that was asking for trouble.

If the memory works in the first two slots, than the RAM is legit. Have you tried the 3rd slot (blue) with one of the sticks? If by "far right slots" you mean BOTH blue RAM slots, than disregard the previous step. If running both RAM sticks in slot#1 and #3 does not work, try rubbing a pencil eraser lightly along the contacts on the memory sticks to be sure the RAM modules have clean connectivity with the RAM slots. The RAM contacts on seldom occasions can become tarnished if stored by one wrong, or over long periods of time. This method has saved me from RMA'n memory in the past on two seperate occasions. It's worth a try!

Goodluck man

PM me your user name for your other account I can get with the admin about the lock out.

I would try the RAM in the other two slots per your user manual. other than that {url=http://www.memtest.org/]Memtest86+[url] scroll down the page and or read down to the bottom for the link to DL. This will help test the memory to make sure of the issue.

i just read the manual .. it states you can use any of 2 same slots to activate dual channel memory .. so same brand and type same slot and if you want to populate all 4 you can with same type and brand and speed , voltage , etc to activate dual channel .. so what ill do is use the 2 blue slots maybe those dont have an issue i ordered corsairs .. i lost confidence in g skill

i cant pm you since im blocked till i have more posts but my other name was jktz122 dont even know why im blocked when i went to recover the password it said it doesnt recognize my email but when i went to make a new account it remembered that email was being used so either its a bug or something worse

That is very weird. It looks like you last visited on April 2 at about 4:30pm.

You should be able to send PM's on this account now though. Did you use the same gmail address here as you used on the main website?

I'll send MPC an e-mail and see if they can figure it.

No promises.

the aftermath .. since my memory stick apparently died .. i gave up on gskill bought the corsair vengeance ... switched from the white slots where i had the problem and now using the blue slots so far knock on wood its good

can it possibly be a defective or bad slot for some reason how can i check and can it be fixed? is it worth bothering to fix?

You could always RMA the board If you want to use all the slots since they will probably send you a new/used as a replacement. Is it worth it? Well that is really up to you and what you think since you will probably be out of a MB until it gets back to you.
