please appraise my computer

everything is good working order just curious how much something like this is worth currently

i plan to upgrade it with possibly a SSD perhaps 2x 60/120gb in raid 0 to speed things up
any recommendations? im thinking of the OCZ agility 3 or if i can scrounge up the extra scratch maybe vertex 3
but im guessing i will be limited by sata 3gb/s anyways? will i see a big difference between the two?

Here's an idea of what your computer would cost right now, used with some new. Don't take it as fact.

So around $590


Will you see a big difference between Agility 3 and Vertex 3, probably not. Either once hits 500MB reads and writes. Vertex 3 does have a higher input/output per second so if you are doing a lot of operations like multitasking that's using the drive, it will help. But if you are coming from a 500gb hdd, you won't see it.

Unless you could bend space and time then perceive the slow down with your mind... :p (or really large files)

ive got another question...my cousin recently gave me 2x hd4870s 512mb since he upgraded
i was wondering since my motherboard supports crossfire x will i see an increase in performance
from my 5850 1GB? but it will be running at 4x i believe

The 4870's in xfire will probably beat out the one 5850, maybe by around 20%, but that's probably being very generous since most modern games would chew through the 512mb vram buffer on higher settings, then hit the vram dump lag issues. Not to mention you are are soaking up 160w for each card that will most likely barely beat the 5850 with a 150w tdp.

It's hard to compare them since the benchmarks of 4800 series are dx10 and from a different gen; tested using different games. And that was the time when DX10 was just so overrated and people just kept coding for DX9 with little loss to eye candy. The DX10 mode in the few games that implemented the newer API actually dropped gpu performance by 10% when it was suppose to increase it.


Honestly, put them in, test it out and report your findings. Run through a few benchmarks like 3dmark or whatever games you have now.
