I recently got an MSI 6200-038US laptop and suddenly it doesn't think it has a battery. Sortof. Windows reflects when I remove the battery and says it's fully charged, but when I unplug the power cord the laptop cuts off like I just removed all power, i.e. it doesn't continue running off the battery. Sometimes. Other times it'll act just fine, and I've not discovered what makes it act which way when.

I hope that makes some sort of sense. Thanks for reading and any help is appreciated!

what OS do you have?..their is quite a debate over Windows 7 64-bit and laptop batteries..its in the Microsoft forums.

i gues the problem is Windows 7 is killing laptop batteries..the same has happened to me...once i installed Windows 7 64-bit on my HP it killed my battery.

Go into the BIOS and see if the motherboard recognizes that it has the battery?

I looked around in the bios and there were no settings pertaining to batteries that I could find. I'll have a closer look when I get home, but I'm fairly sure they aren't there.

So I discovered the problem. Evidently the battery is not making good contact with the pins in the laptop. When I put pressure on the battery the laptop comes to life, but when I let go it dies. So back to Fry's I go for a replacement.

I wonder if the issue (the pins not connecting properly) is a defect specific to that battery, that brand of batteries, or that laptop?

For more laptop batteries.
