Here's what I want to accomplish. I'm thinking of building a cheap, low power, low cost computer that I can keep track of parts I have on hand for repairing tools. Some of the crap I've ordered I forget that I have and end up ordering more! I have tons of new parts in storage containers labeled according to manufacturer name, but that's the extent of my organizing. It's worked to this point but would like to take it to the next level. This computer will be for nothing else except that. No internet, nothing. Here's the catch, I need the OS to be open source in that there's no license needed, or money to be spent. I was thinking Ubuntu. (I have 8.04 but am aware of newer versions and am able to download and burn) Do you guys have any suggestions on a database program? I would basically like to keep track of names and part numbers is all. Again, I would like for it to be free as well.
thanks in advance for any help
