Haven't had any luck as of yet finding an answer to this, but here it goes.

I'm converting a ATX PSU into a DC power supply to power a stereo. I'm using an old Kenwood deck and speakers to rig up a little stereo.

What I can't quite wrap my head around is if I took all six 12v wires that are 18Ga and attached them to the yellow and red wires on the deck if it would handle the draw. The total length of this run is only going to be about a foot. Now that I am typing this out I'm quite certain 18Ga will be fine to supply the deck.

But if anyone knows if using a few slightly smaller gauged wires as a substitute for a large gauge (two 16Ga instead of a 14Ga) would work or not, please let me know.

Thanks LatiosXT for the quick reply.
The deck has a 10A fuse so it should be fine.

Although to answer your question about using two smaller gauge wires in place of a larger one, I'm tempted to say you can do that, and the current will be split evenly. You just have to make sure where they connect to on either end can handle the amps.

EDIT: actually there's a caveat to this. Both wires need resistors on at least one end, otherwise you have a short circuit loop. Play around with this app
