I went on my desktop today to find it in startup repair. It was stuck on the loading screen for a long time, so I restarted it and got the blue screen. I'm assuming that the reason it was in startup repair is because it got the blue screen while I was away, then restarted itself and went into startup repair by default. I can't get onto the desktop even when I go into safe mode, so I can't access any of the files that I want to save. On the blue screen, it says BAD_POOL_HEADER at the top and at the bottom it says:

*** STOP: 0x00000019 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8003C462E0, 0xFFFFFA8003C462E0, 0x0000000000000000)

Other than that it is all the usual stuff you would see on a blue screen error.

Is there any way to completely fix this? Or is there at least some way I can access my files so I can move them onto an external hard drive to save them?

Thanks

What version of Windows are you using? Do you have the Windows installation disk? If so, does it include the most recent Service Pack?

Just poke some of those numbers into Google. What comes up will point you in the right direction. Google will help answer just about any computer question.

Try running a repair installation with the Windows 7 installation DVD. Here is a link that will tell you how: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/34 ... stall.html. Good luck!

Run the free diagnostic app from the hard drive maker on the boot drive. Be prepared to write down any error code. If it offers to fix anything I would consider a sector-by-sector copy if you have another PC and a large enough HDD on it before allowing a fix attempt. If it does "fix" the drive I would back it up immediately and replace the drive.

If the drive passes, I would probably boot up and run memtest86 because it is easy to do though in this case I don't think it is the problem---I suspect failing sectors.

Do as pcstudent says and use the win 7 dvd to "Repair" windows. It sounds like you installed a driver that windows didn't like and crashed the system. You could also choose last best known configuration in the safe menu and/or use the restore option to go to a day when it worked properly.

Nasty
