I'm trying to get the most out of my audio on my HTPC. Movies work great.. well for the most part, AAC 5.1's still use "Neo 6" on my receiver.

Anyway, I'm using HDMI through my 560ti to send a signal to my Onkyo TX-NR509. The games are showing "Neo 6" as well, it is my understanding that this is a stereo signal that is converted to virtual surround sound. I also read that all XBOX games are required to have Dolby Digital so shouldn't the PC version as well?

Examples: Alice, Dungeon Siege 3, Skyrim, Darksiders, etc..

More than likely, it's the Xbox 360 that has the mixing in it, not the game. If you want to use Dolby Digital, you have to license the technology from Dolby. If every game were required to have it, that's recurring costs that nobody wants.

If anything then, your sound card has to support it. Most mid-tier or above cards have Dolby support.
