CryEngine is also getting Linux and SteamOS support.

Haven't heard anything about Unity 5 supporting SteamOS yet.

I think this new heralds the death of the Windows operating system.

Funny thing how Microsoft itself sabotaged PC gaming because they were afraid of losing money they didn't have to Sony's Playstation.

Once games go to Linix or SteamOS, there will be no compelling reason to have a Windows operating system.

LOL.

we have all been waiting 20 years for this "year of linux desktop" and not a blip on the radar. just the linux neckbeards grasping at any and all straws. lol

You guys should focus more on undoing the damage you've done and less on ridiculing your remaining customers.

Hopefully this iteration will be optimized for both the PC and the consoles. I don't believe that I've ever played an UE3 game on either PC or console that was truly optimized for the platform that it is on. The Unreal Engine claimed to run on all last-gen platforms easily but that didn't seem to be the case.

I understand that the game developer is responsible for most of that. However, when _every game_ has performance issues, I start to suspect some culpability in the engine maker.

Linux *and SteamOS? Does SteamOS require some specific tuning?

Valve might be doing some heavy customization to optimize specifically for gaming/Steam. It could also just be a marketing gimmick by Unreal to let people that don't understand SteamOS is Linux know that Unreal 4 games will run on the platform. I am inclined to believe it's the latter.

I apologize for the double post.

Are there any presently released AAA games that use the Unreal 4 engine? I saw a lot of TBA and there seems to be 4 or 5 but none I ever heard of.

Sean D Knight

None that I am aware of at this point in time.
