New Minority Search Engine
Many have tried to take on Google in the search arena, and just as many have failed to topple the giant. But that hasn't stopped some from carving a niche out for themselves, and that's exactly what Barry Miller's
IAC/InteractiveCorp intends to do
. IAC's Rushmore Drive describes itself as
"a first-of-its-kind search engine for the Black community
," returning results purportedly more likely to interest African American surfers. Johnny Taylor, chief executive of Rushmore Drive, says the results are based on years of search data from IAC's Ask.com division.
AMD CTO Steps Down
And here we thought AMD's mass exodus among top brass had come to end. Boy were we wrong. Phil Hester, AMD's CTO, becomes the latest high level exec to
leave the Sunnyvale based chip maker
. Hester, who according to a company spokesman will not be replaced, leaves behind a company struggling to return to profitability. AMD recently
to cut 10 percent of its workforce, but said Hester's departure isn't associated with the job reductions.
Stolen Military Gear Shows Up on Ebay, Craigslist
Yowzers! According to congressional investigators, stolen and sensitive U.S. military equipment has been appearing on online sales sites. Some of the items include F-14 fighter jet parts wanted by Iran and nuclear biological protective gear. Undercover investigators were able to snatch a dozen defense related items on Ebay and Craigslist dating back to January 2007, and said such items "
could have been used directly against our troops and allies, or reverse engineered to develop counter measures or equivalent technologies.
