CyberPower Stuffs New Radeon HD 6990 into Gaming PC Lineup

Boutique system builder CyberPower wasted no time announcing the availability of AMD's newly minted Radeon HD 6990 graphics card across the company's entire lineup of desktop gaming PCs. That includes CyberPower's more affordable Gamer Dragon and Ultra series. Getting an entire system built around AMD's latest dual-GPU videocard might be cheaper than you think.

The starting price for a CyberPower Radeon HD 6990 systm is a buck shy of $1,400, or so CyberPower says. At the time of this writing, CyberPower's system configurator still hasn't been updated to reflect the new HD 6990 option, though for $899 the Gamer Dragon comes spec'd as follows:

  • Xion Predator 970 Gaming Series case
  • AMD Phenom II X6 1055T six-core processor
  • Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 motherboard
  • 8GB DDR3-1333 memory
  • AMD Radeon HD 6850 graphics card
  • 1TB SATA III 7200RPM hard drive with 64MB cache
  • 600W power supply
  • 24X DVD burner
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
  • Speakers, keyboard, mouse

We suspect that upgrading to the HD 6990, once it becomes avaiable, will push the price to around the $1,400 mark, just as CyberPower claims. Not a bad deal for a six-core system with a dual-GPU videocard and gobs of RAM, and of course you can upgrade as you see fit (and as your wallet allows).
