I think tablets are just at market saturation. Most people just use their tablets for watching movies and browsing the internet, so theres no real need for the latest models (unless you're a fanboy). For example, my nexus 10 which is a couple of years old now is still fine for movies and web browsing.

Yeah I think as most school work and freelancing work cannot be done in a tablet a laptop is just needed. As the job market changes, most people require a computer to work due to software simply not available in tablets. I work in IT and the scenario of working in a tablet is nightmarish. Yeah some jobs can be made with a tablet but I prefer the power and versatility of a laptop.

I do a lot of freelancing in graphic design as well as some customer support and it's software is simply non existant in a tablet. As a matter of fact, I jumped in the tablet bandwagon when the Ipad 2 arrived and after a couple months it just sat unused in the drawer as it was more of a novelty than anything else. I always went back to the Macbook Pro as I could simply do more than just internet and email...

I think we went over this before.

It's less to do with how capable they are and more of how saturated the market is. When it comes to content consumption devices, either they have enough tablets as is, or they carry around a smartphone which gets them access to said content anyway.

If all you use is a laptop to go on Facebook and watch movies, then it's no different than a tablet usage wise. At least a tablet can last 8 hours.

Tablets are a waste of money. Far less useful than a laptop and too costly. Just an expensive toy that will sit unused when the newness wares off.

I know my kid used the heck out of one and wants another. For myself, I have no need. My wife enjoys watching movies and playing silly games on hers. So, I don't think they are a waste of money, not unless you buy one thinking it can replace a good laptop or desktop.

This shouldn't be a surprise. A laptop is way more capable than a tablet for college usage.

S D, I agree and also for most any use.

I build my own desktops where I do most of my real work but the last cycle I bought us all tablets instead of new notebooks for travel and portable use. The tablets are fine but I see no need to upgrade them for what they are used for so this cycle I bought some of us new Notebooks (Ultrabook category)and the others that are due later this year will also be Notebooks. This year I also built new desktop rigs.
Tablets have their uses but I see no need to get new ones every few years.
I do not believe that you can build a long lasting industry on a fad. Real computers have been around for decades now but tablets have had their startup boom, I think they will be a solid segment but not dominant or even high growth once everyone has one.

But...all that carefully tested advertising...break-dancing millennials...jargon-rich emails...it just can't be! It just can't be!

Maybe they just need to spend more on reality-altering advertising?
